SPOTLIGHT OF VOCATIONS
Sister Diane Marie Turner, parish life co- ordinator, St. Felicitas Church Beaver Prairie. Sister Diane, a member of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, was born and raised in East St. Louis. She attended St. Philips' grade school and St. Teresa's Academy. In 1958 Sister Diane was off to the School Sisters of Notre Dame in St. Louis to continue her religious education. Sister credits being educated in the Catholic school system by the nuns as her inspiration, and vocation in her life to follow.
Sister Diane is the eldest of 3 children. Her father passed away in 1979, while her 85 year old mother, brother and sister reside in Belleville.
Sister spent 16 years teaching elementary education in St. Louis, Alton, East St. Louis and Herrin. Her professional experience also includes Pastoral Associate at St. Boniface Parish, Evansville & St Pius Parish, Walsh Il. She served as Director of Religious education at Mt. Zion, Nokomis, Witt & Wood River Illinois as well as Keokuk, Iowa.
Sister is a member of the "National Parish Coordinators and Directors of Religious Education, Illinois Parish Coordinators and Directors of Religious Education holding offices of President, Vice-President and Treasurer, Spiritual Directors International and National Association of Lay Ministers.
In 2000 Sister Diane was appointed by the Bishop as Parish Life Co-ordinator at St. Felicitas and in July was re-appointed for an additional 3 years. Sister noted that helping people on a daily basis, being part of their lives, walking with them in their journey is a source of strength for her in her Catholic Vocation.
On
a more personal note, Sister Diane stated, "I love working with the
people of Beaver Prairie. They are hardworking people of deep faith, who care
deeply about family and church. Their care and concern for others enables me
to do what needs to be done in my ministry as Parish Life Co- ordinator.

SEPTEMBER 9, PRO-LIFE MASS, FAMILY PROGRAM AND REGULAR MEETING
On September
9th, Father Chuck Tuttle will Celebrate a Mass at 7:15 PM upstairs at the Hall
for Pro-Life. Our regular meeting will follow @ 8:00. During our meeting Ann
Polka, Pro-Life Coordinator for the Belleville Diocese will give a
presentation to anyone of High School age or older that is interested. The
theme of Ann's presentation will be: Pro-Life: An expression of God's love.
The Catholic Church is a pro-life church; the Catholic Church is a healing
church. Come and learn what YOU can do to make the difference in someone's
life. The presentation will be on various pro-life issues, including Project
Rachel, the post- abortion healing program in the diocese. You may be the one
to help someone choose life...you may be the one to help someone to heal. Come
and learn how. Come with your questions, concerns and comments! Bring your
entire family and invite your neighbors. The Mass and presentation is open to
the public. Refreshments will be served following the presentation and
meeting.
FAMILY PICNIC SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 11
We will again
have the party at the Breese North Side Park, only this year it will be at the
West Pavilion. Please RSVP to Curt Zurliene (526-2018) by Monday September
6th. We will have games for all ages so please bring the whole family. The
picnic activities will begin @ 2:00 PM with dinner being served @ approx. 4:00
PM. If you plan on attending please bring a dish, Family's with last name A-L
Salad or Vegetable M-Z Dessert. Again please remember to RSVP by September 6th
and we will see you at the party.
UPCOMING PARADES
Breese and
other area councils will be participating in both the Mater Dei Homecoming
parade on September 15 and Okawville Wheatfest parade on September 19. If you
are at the parades, give your brother Knights a wave!
TOOTSIE ROLL WEEKEND, SEPTEMBER 17-19
It time for the
35th Annual Tootsie Roll fund drive for Mental Retardation/ Learning
Disabilities. Please work your assigned shifts if all possible. A work list
should be included with this mailing or personal phone calls will be made. If
you have not been contacted and would like to work, please call Chairman Jim
Schulte @ 526-4217. Our goal this year is $6,586.36. With your support, both
financially and working your shifts, we can make our goal!
FAMILY DAY AT BUSCH, SEPTEMBER 19
Those that have made their
reservations to attend the Cardinal /Diamondbacks will be headed to St Louis
for a fun filled day. We will be joined by our Squires and recent grade school
graduates that were Mass Servers. Knights and their families from Illinois and
Missouri will be on hand to cheer the Cards onto victory.

so that they can be published in the Supreme Convention Cookbook next year
when Illinois will host the 123rd Supreme Convention, to be held in Chicago in
August. Lets show our typical Council #2869 hospitality and leadership with a

SOUTHERN FRIENDSHIP DINNER, OCTOBER 2
Breese Council Past Grand
Knight, Jerry Jansen has been chosen to be one of the 5 honorees. A fun filled
evening has been planned beginning with a 5:00 PM Mass concelebrated by Bishop
Gregory and Msgr. Bill Hitpas @ St Nicholas Church, O'Fallon followed by a
Social Hour and Dinner at the O'Fallon K of C Hall. Price for the dinner is
$12.00 per person wich includes most drinks. Paid RSVP deadline is September
24 to the Grand Knight @ P.O. Box 5, Breese, IL Lets show our pride in
honoring one of our very active members while socializing with the rest of the
Knights in Belleville Diocese. Lets do it "For the Fun of it"!
BREESE HARVESTFEST,
OCTOBER 1 & 2
The Breese Council will again be selling food during the weekend at the corner of North 4thand Main. Chairman Leo Lammers says the menu will include potato pancakes, steak sandwiches and misc other favorites. The proceeds from the food stand is earmarked for community projects. If you are contacted to work, please do so. If you are in the area, stop by and get a bite to eat.
PRO-LIFE BREAKFAST
Breese and other area councils
will be hosting our annual breakfast to benefit Pro- Life at St Barbara's
Parish Center in Okawville the morning of October 3. Why not take a drive to
Okawville and support Pro- Life.
OCTOBER 14, INITIATION
AND MEETING
Prior to our regular meeting @
8:00 PM, we will be conducting a First Degree Initiation @ 7:15 PM. Goal for
October is 10 new members. We currently have 663 members in our council. Our
goal for this fraternal year is 32 new members. If 1 out of 20 Knights would
sign a new member we will achieve our goal, but don't leave it up the other
guy! Why not ask your neighbors to join? Give Membership Chairman Mike Poiter
a call at 228-7102 if you need any help or information.
150 COOPERATIVE RAFFLE TICKETS SOLD!
Lets pat ourselves on the back
for a great return of the raffle tickets! Chairman Mike Nettemeier was
collecting and selling tickets right up until the deadline. Thanks Mike for a
job well done!
FRIDAY NIGHT FUN AND GAMES
Don't forget that chicken,
fish, fries cole slaw and now potato salad is served from 4:00 PM. Bingo
begins @ 7:30 PM with Lightning Raffles and Win-a-buck game sheets available
from 6:30 PM. Watch for bingo specials on the marquee.
BREESE COUNCIL BRINGS HOME TROPHIES
Our 7 horseshoe pitchers and 4
washer throwers had a great day at the State K of C Tournament held Saturday
August 28th. Winning horseshoe pitchers from Breese Council were: Jerry
Dumstorff - 2nd place in A flight, Tom Harper - 2nd place in B flight, Charlie
Hilmes - 1st place in D flight. Winning washer throwers were: Jim Wesselmann -
1st place A flight and Wally Eilers - 2nd place B flight. Thanks guys for
representing our council and bringing home the hardware !
RELIGIOUS VOCATION APPRECIATION DAY
Breese Council was well represented on Sunday August 29 at the Shrine of our Lady of the Snows for the Belleville Diocesan Chapter Knights of Columbus Religious Vocation Appreciation Program. A beautiful prayer service was conducted by Bishop Gregory and State Chaplain Retired Bishop Kaffer followed by a social hour and dinner. It was a wonderful evening of prayer, visiting and gracious comment. What a great feeling it was to be present to show our appreciation to these individuals that serve us through Christ everyday of their lives.
FAMILY OF THE MONTH
Deputy Grand Knight Curt and Maria Zurliene. Curt did an excellent job with the Golf Tournament and has planned a fun filled Family Picnic for September 11. Curt is always available to help the council in anyway he can, and has really taken the office of Deputy Grand Knight seriously. Curt is employed at FCB Bank in Albers. Maria teaches and moderates many activities at Mater Dei High School. She is highly respected by her students and fellow teachers. Thanks to Curt and Maria for making a positive impact on so many people.
KNIGHT OF THE MONTH
Our Friday Night Lunch
Chairman, Ralph Maue. Ralph puts in countless hours in planning and working
this weekly program. Many times Ralph will be working early Fridays with
cleaning chicken and checking the deliveries for the day. In the afternoon and
evening, he will be on hand to assist any crews who might be short handed.
Most often he is available to reconcile the cash drawer at the end of the
night. Recently, Ralph took another role as "The Grand Knight's body
guard". I know I feel safer now!
