SPOTLIGHT ON A VOCATION

Fr Pat Peter, Pastor of St Dominic Parish, Brother Knight and Sir Knight, will be highlighted this month.

Fr Pat is one of ten children of the Frank and Iris Peter Family. He was born and raised on a farm in rural Wabash County, outside of Mt Carmel, IL, and was a member of St Sebastian Parish. Father attended St Mary School in Mt Carmel. When he was in about the third grade, he wanted to be priest, while his other classmates wanted to firemen and doctors. In order to cultivate his possible religious vocation, he attended St Henry’s Preparatory in the booming metropolis of Belleville. After graduating from St Henry’s, Fr Pat attended college in seminaries in both Lockport and Quincy. Studies in theology took Father to St. Meinrad, Indiana. Fr Peter was ordained in the Cathedral of St Peter in Belleville, on June 7, 1975.

Fr Pat has served the parishes of St Mary - Mt Carmel, Our Lady Queen of Peace -  Belleville, St Mary - Centralia, St Joseph - Cobden, St Lawrence - Sandoval, and St James - Millstadt, prior to arriving at St Dominic Parish in Breese on July 11, 1995.

Shortly after arriving in Breese, Father Pat agreed to become the Father Prior (chaplain) of the Breese Squires, where he continues his active participation.

Father credits his parents, the Precious Blood Sisters who taught him in grade school, and the Franciscan Fathers for the ultimate cultivation of his religious vocation.

He also considers his participation in TEC retreats a fortifying element in his relationship with God.

Father Pat Peter enjoys golf and an occasional game of euchre during his free time. Father has a keen sense of humor and always enjoys a good joke. We are very fortunate to have Father share his vocation with us, and his spiritual leadership of the Squires.

50 YEARS OF SERVICE!

Congratulations to the 9 members of Breese Council who have achieved 50 years of continuous service: Herbert Foppe, Joseph Fischer, Richard Hellige, Melvin Kreiter, Robert Jansen, Jerome Lampe, PGK James Lampe, Cornelius Kniepmann, and Edmund Korte.

LOCAL SPELLER ADVANCES

We’ll be pulling for you, LIzzy!

FISH, FRIENDS, AND MORE

The Lenten fish fries have come to a close. Service has been great with very little waiting time. Hats off to all the Knights and Squires that worked hard to serve all our customers!

Spread the news: “Being a Knight is fun”. Ask your neighbor to join us!

AUCTION

The members-only auction that was held at the hall on Saturday, March 5, was a lot of fun and a great success. Thanks to all who attended, and to Mr and Mrs Dave Lampe for conducting the event!

TRIVIA FOR NEWMAN

The 2nd Annual Trivia Night for Newman was held March 5, with 3 teams being tied for 1st Place at the end of the evening. All who attended had a great time. Thanks to all our sponsors in the community who donated prizes. Hats off to Co-chairs Mike Niemeyer and Ahren Langhauser.

APRIL IS SQUIRES MONTH

The Breese Squires were again victorious in the State Basketball Tournament, winning 1st place in both the Junior and Senior Divisions.

Our Squires will begin their celebration of Squire’s Month with attendance at the State Squire’s Convention on April 1-3 in Bloomington. They will be meeting fellow Squires from all over the State to enjoy various leadership sessions, and of course, to find out which Circles had the best programs, and to honor the Squire, Circle, and Counselor of the Year.

NO NAME CHANGE

The members in attendance at our last regular meeting discussed a possible name change to Fr Aydt Council, but after a paper ballot it was determined that the old name will remain. Thanks to all who attended the meeting and voiced their opinions!

RYKER TEBBE BENEFIT

As you all probably know by now, the Breese K of C, along with other local organizations and family members, will be co-sponsoring/hosting this very worthwhile benefit. Please stop by on April 2 at the hall, or donate what you can towards this worthwhile cause.

PRO LIFE ACTIVITY

April 4 has been designated as the KofC National Day of the Unborn, instead of March 25, because it fell on Good Friday. The Squires, Knights, and Sir Knights are asking everyone in our community to join them for a Pro-Life Shower and Living Rosary on April 4 at 7:30 PM. Following the rosary, a short video will be presented prior to the Squires serving light refreshments. Non-gift-wrapped shower items can be anything that a baby or new mother can use, and will be donated to needy families.

  READY, SET, DEAL!

Our next Texas Hold’em Tournament will be held at the hall on Saturday April 9th. 1st Place minimum: $500 in Cash and Prizes. Call Shane @ 521-2690 to register for $25 before April 5. After April 5, or at the door, entry will be $30.00. Spread the word and invite some friends! We are only one of very, very few, licensed public games in the area.

RELIGIOUS VOCATION BENEFIT BREAKFAST

We, along with the help of The Serra Club, will be hosting a sausage, egg, hash brown, pancake, biscuit and gravy, etc. Breakfast will be served from 8 till noon on Sunday, April 10. The work lists have already been mailed, so if you received a card, please work your shift or find a replacement. If you didn’t get a card to work, you can help out by stopping by with the family for breakfast that morning. All proceeds will be used to support the activities of the Serra Club, to foster religious vocations.

MASS AND MEETING

Our Chaplain, Fr Chuck Tuttle, will celebrate a special Mass for our members and their families, at our hall on April 14 at 7:15pm. The regular meeting will follow for the Knights, with a special program for our other guests in the dining room. After the meeting, we will have a complimentary, old fashioned, fish fry!

CONVENTION ANYONE?

Now is the time to begin the planning for our council members to attend the 107th Annual Knights of Columbus Convention, to be held in downtown Chicago during the weekend of May 27,28 & 29. Any Knight and his spouse is welcome to attend. Information packets and a sign up sheet are available at the hall. If we don’t fill our bus, the extra seats will be offered to other Councils’ members.

FUN AND GAMES?

Softball season is around the corner. Any Knights interested in playing softball on either the 34 or younger, or the 35 or older teams, please call PGK and Sports chairman Gary Jansen @ 526-4031.

KNIGHT OF THE MONTH

Squire’s Chief Counselor Brad Halstead will be honored as the Knights of the Month for April. Brad has been active with our Squire’s Circle for many years, and is currently serving his first year as Chief Counselor. Brad, also a Sir Knight, attends most of our Council meetings, and keeps us “up-to-date” on what our Squires are doing and planning. Brad keeps a watchful eye on all the Squires do throughout the year, encouraging them to find the time to help out the Knights and other local organizations.  Thanks for all of your time and efforts!

FAMILY OF THE MONTH

You’d be hard pressed to find a 18 year old male in the R Joe Richter Family who in not a Knight of Columbus. R Joe recently recruited five new members to our council, three of whom were his grandsons: Jason and Ryan Litteken, and Kylre Fehrmann. R Joe and wife Barb are active in many local organizations, which include: St Dominic Parish, Clinton County Showcase, The Chamber of Commerce, and the Breese Historical Society, to name a just a few. R Joe is a Past Grand Knight and Past District Deputy, as well as a proud member of the Lions and the American Legion.
